I don’t think I have ever done a “current favorites” post before, but there are a few songs, artists and albums, pieces of clothing, Insta accounts, TV shows, shoes, etc. that I have genuinely been enjoying right now and had to share with y’all.

If you’re like me then you’re obsessed with all things Magnolia, especially their Hearth & Hand line at Target.

This weekend they dropped a ton of new inventory for winter and holiday entertaining, and I can already hear my wallet (and my husband) crying.

Ketogenic Diet 1 Month Update

Ketogenic Diet 1 Month Update

For reference, I identify as female, I am 28 years old, I am 5 feet and 5 inches tall, and when I started this journey I weighed 170 pounds.

. . .

A little over four weeks ago, my husband and I made a major lifestyle change — we began the ketogenic diet (keto for short).

There’s a lot of mixed information out there about keto, so I encourage everyone curious about it to do their own research. To sum it up, though, here’s a short description from Women’s Health Magazine:

“This eating plan is all about minimizing your carbs and upping your fats to get your body to use fat as a form of energy, says Scott Keatley, R.D., of Keatley Medical Nutrition Therapy. While everyone’s body and needs are slightly different, that typically translates to: 60 to 75 percent of your calories from fat, 15 to 30 percent of your calories from protein, and 5 to 10 percent of your calories from carbs.”

By now I’m sure you’ve seen the standard fall photo all over Instagram of someone looking down at their feet standing on their doormat. It’s everywhere, and my Insta is no different.

I have posted a few pictures now that show glimpses of my porch styled for fall and each time I do, someone asks me where I got the doormat and buffalo check rug that I currently have at our front door.

I Wasn’t Expecting This

I Wasn’t Expecting This

I penned this several weeks ago but never published it. Today, I revisited it, added to it, and decided to dump my heart into it.

Trying to conceive has been one of the most emotionally draining times in my life and my husband’s life, and I was not prepared for all of the ups and downs that come with it. And unless you’ve been through it, you absolutely cannot relate — sorry.  I have spoken to several women who also are struggling TTC or have struggled, and I know that I am not alone in the range of emotions I have experienced over the last (almost) year.

Like many of my more emotional pieces, I debated posting this because it is vulnerable and raw, and I acknowledge that not everyone likes to read that type of content. However, one of my favorite things about blogging is that, through my content, I am able to connect with people (some I have never even met) who are in similar life stages as me or have similar experiences.

What I do here on Dammit, Hali might seem silly to some, but to the ones who get it and relate to the things I share, I welcome you with an open heart. Hopefully this post finds its way to someone — who, like me — occasionally needs a reminder that they are not alone on this journey.

. . .

As I was stepping out of the shower this morning, I began thinking about all the events (vacations, weddings, celebrations, etc.) my husband and I have coming up in the next several months, and I immediately said to myself, “Damn, I really thought I would be pregnant for all of these things; I thought I would be pregnant by now.”

But, it turns out, that is not the case.

I wasn’t expecting this.

Why I Decorate My Home with My Mom’s ‘Old Stuff’

Why I Decorate My Home with My Mom’s ‘Old Stuff’

I was still living “at home” when my mom passed away in the summer of 2009.

For a long time after her death my dad and I didn’t touch anything in the house; we didn’t rearrange the furniture, take pictures off the walls, or move a single decoration. It’s as if everything was preserved just how she left it and if we moved anything, it made the reality of her absence too real.

I have had a blast decorating our new house and making it a home we will enjoy for years to come.

While I love picking out new furniture and decor, I am not exactly a fan of spending a ton of money on any of it. Especially on throw pillows.

Remembering Our Wedding One Year Later

Remembering Our Wedding One Year Later

One year ago today I was the most stressed and panicked I had ever seen myself.

It was the day before our wedding and nothing was going the way it was supposed to. Our flowers didn’t arrive on time {you can read about that here}, our venue wasn’t decorated, and I was late to my own rehearsal because I had an actual breakdown trying to deal with all of this.
