. . .

I loathe shopping for shoes. As someone who generally loves to shop, shoe shopping honestly is one of my least favorite things to do.

There is just something about going into a store and trying on shoes that annoys the hell out of me.

I don’t want to sit down on some uncomfortable bench or chair and take off my own shoe so I can try-on a shoe that most likely is not going to fit my weird-shaped foot right. And then repeat that process over and over again until I maybe find one style that works for me. Plus, if I happen to find a pair of shoes that I like enough to think about buying, it never fails that the store won’t have my size.

Shoes, simply, are not something I want to spend money on.

Lunch Breaks /// Old Navy Try-On

Thank you to all those who tuned in for the first episode of “Lunch Breaks with Hali” on Instagram Stories last week.

It was a lot of fun to grab a bunch of clothes and head to the dressing room for a try-on session at Old Navy.

Everything from my try-on is linked below. I know a lot of you already purchased the chambray shirt dress and twill field jacket because you loved them as much as I do!

Fun & Feminine Loft Summer Fashion Haul

Fun & Feminine Loft Summer Fashion Haul

Buttons and lace and ruffles — oh my!

If you follow me on Instagram then you probably saw that on Saturday I posted a photo of myself wearing a darling little white tank with the most perfect lace detail, and I promised a Loft summer fashion haul on the blog.

Well, here it is friends. I did a little damage online at Loft last week and treated myself to some new clothes since they had an additional 60-percent off sale items.

It’s mostly pretty tops that I can pair with denim shorts (a closet staple) for a clean and classic look, but everything is fun and ultra feminine.

What’s In My Suitcase /// West Coast Essentials

West Coast Essentials

Greetings from California, friends!

I’m at a work conference in Anaheim this week, and next week the hubby is joining me out here and we’re heading to Los Angeles for vacation.

I’m still trying to adjust to the time change but want to share the handful of things I absolutely had to pack for 10 days on the left coast.

Happy {almost} spring, friends!

I don’t know about you, but I am bursting with excitement for the warmer days we’ve been experiencing here in Charlotte, NC. We were in the 80s for most of the second-to-last week of February, and I don’t hate it.

All of this sunshine and my upcoming trip to Southern California had me wishing for a refreshed warmer-weather wardrobe, and the timing was perfect to schedule another Stitch Fix.

Dammit, Hali Has A New Look, Y’all

I started blogging in 2015 as a way to talk about my struggles and experiences as a motherless daughter. At the time, my site was called “Roots & Wings,” and I hoped to connect with other women who lost their mothers at a young age and even young girls just beginning their journey as a motherless daughter.

When I lost my mom at 19, I didn’t have anyone to talk to who understood the loss I was experiencing at that age. In beginning this blog, I wanted to potentially be a safe place for young women to turn to if they needed to talk.

I will always remember the first time I received a message from a girl who stumbled across my blog and felt comfortable enough to open up her heart to me. I could relate to everything she shared, and reading her words made me feel like the time and energy I put in to this blog was worth it. If I could be there for one person, it was worth it.

Stitch Fix No. 7 Review

Stitch Fix No. 7 Review

If you’ve been hanging with me for a little while, you might remember that I just reviewed my fall Stitch Fix box in October.

Typically, I wouldn’t schedule another Fix so soon, but Stitch Fix is waiving the $20 styling fee right now, and I was searching for a cocktail dress to wear on our upcoming honeymoon to Walt Disney World. So, since I had nothing to lose, I said what the hell and scheduled one more Fix for 2017.

I am certainly glad I did, too.

I know I have said this before, but this Stitch Fix box was hands-down my best yet. My stylist Cara tailored the Fix to perfectly match my style, and each piece fit me wonderfully — making it incredibly difficult to decide which items I would keep.

Plus, the note she left me was especially sweet. I love that she mentioned she read my blog post on how I honored my mom at my wedding.

How Does Stitch Fix Work?

How Does Stitch Fix Work?

It is no secret that I am a fan of Stitch Fix, an online personalized styling service. It is fun and easy to receive a box full of high-quality clothes and accessories in the mail, try on everything in front of my own mirror, and send back what I don’t want.

If you’re curious about how Stitch Fix works, here you go:

Fall Stitch Fix Review

Fall Stitch Fix Review

Cool air, leaves changing, boots, vests, pumpkin beers — I love fall. Especially fall in North Carolina. It is just such a beautiful time of year here.

IMG_3759-EditBecause the seasons are changing, it was time for me to order another Stitch Fix box. I like to schedule my Fixes at the beginning of each season to help me stock my closet with a few staple and quality pieces that will not only last me for the months ahead, but hopefully ones that I can use for years to come.

In my note to my stylist, I mentioned that I was looking for items that would transition from the hot summer days to the cooler fall weather we are beginning to experience in Charlotte, NC.

I also specifically asked for trousers and cute, feminine tops, and I mentioned that I was searching for different pieces of clothing in shades of green because that is the school color of the university I work for.

Best Shoes for Walt Disney World

Best Shoes for Walt Disney World

I quickly learned during my first visit to Walt Disney World as an adult that footwear is everything when it comes to all-day comfort, and those stylish but flat sandals do not cut it.

My feet actually burned in pain after spending 12 hours our first day walking from one side of Magic Kingdom to the other and back in an extremely cute pair of sandals that had zero support.

Honestly, walking in those shoes all day was the equivalent of walking barefoot on concrete. If I had to take one more step in those, I probably would have laid down on the sidewalk and pitched a hissy fit that could put a tired and hungry two-year-old to shame.

That was the first and only time I made that mistake.

Nothing ruins a day in your favorite park quicker than painful feet. You are going spend several hours each day in whatever shoes you choose as you navigate parks (I average about 30,000 steps each day at WDW), so it is important to be thoughtful in regards to footwear.
